This is another of our favorite islands. We were anchored off the island of Terre-de-Haut, which has many quaint houses on the hillside. Beth did some shopping in town and then we hiked over the hill to Playa Pompierre for a short visit to the beach. On the way there we were treated to an organized track meet, where many of the children actually ran their races barefoot. There were not as many people on the beach as there were last time we visited the island, and the wind wasn't blowing quite as bad, so we definitely enjoyed the visit. We ate lunch at La Saladerie, which was our first lunch on this trip not provided by the Mandalay. We were told their smoked fish was excellent, so I just had to try their combination platter. The food was good and the view was excellent, so we were glad we tried it. Although it rained occasionally on other days of the cruise, the rainstorm in the afternoon at Bourg was definitely the hardest and lasted the longest. Fortunately it gave Beth and I an opportunity to sit under an awning and relax, allowing us a nice, peaceful way to recover from our hike the previous day on Dominica. After the rainstorm, I left Beth to shop around in town a little more while I hiked most of the way up to Fort Napolean trying to find an Iguana that was willing to pose for a picture. Even though we were told there were lots of Iguanas on the island (they are protected by law), I wasn't able to spot one.
