We left Moab at daybreak, and despite the fairly brisk morning temperatures, the Miata was still top down. I don't think we could have done this without our Miata windblocker, it really aided in keeping the temperature in the car up, and the wind to a minimum. We travelled the Colorado River Scenic Byway (also known as Route 128), which follows the Colorado River northeast to I-70. It was a beautiful Miata drive, both for the scenery and the enjoyable drive.

After a relatively short drive east on I-70 into Colorado, we turned north on Route 139 towards Rangely. This was another excellent Miata drive, with several sightings of wild turkey along the way. At Rangely, Colorado we turned west to re-enter Utah and re-joined US 191 north.

Flaming Gorge Reservoir having it's own page on this trip is a little deceiving. We didn't really spend anytime there, but it was the only picture we took on the fourth day of the vacation (the one above didn't turn out well enough to count :-). The reservoir was created when a 500 foot high dam was built across the Green River. The result is a 90 mile long reservoir that twists and turns through the Flaming Gorge. Here's another web site that will give you a Flaming Gorge Tour.

The remainder of the trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming offered several sightings of pronghorn antelope and deer. Once arriving at Jackson Hole, we rented a cabin for 2 nights and had dinner and an evening stroll through the downtown square. We started making plans for the next day in the Grand Teton National Park.
