Segmented Woodturning Projects
I have been asked many times about how the southwest design feature rings in many of these segmented vessels were created. The process includes quite a bit of cutting, gluing and clamping but it is actually a much easier process than most people imagine. I created a simple web page that demonstrates the general principles used to construct these southwest patterns, so check it out if you want to explore using the technique in your own woodworking adventures.
I have begun experimenting with photogrammetry software to capture some 3D scans of my woodworking pieces. Currently I have used Agisoft Metashape and the Polycam website to capture some scans with mixed results. I am using Model Viewer to display the successfully captured models. Click on any of the thumbnail images below and a new window will appear in which you can drag the model around with the left mouse button and zoom in or out with the mouse scroll wheel or with the pinch or spread two finger techniques on a tablet or phone.
